Does anyone knows about this painting or painter?
I bought a painting in a second hand store. It is real since you can see the brush strokes. It shows a house on a cliff almost in the dark, with two windows from where you can see a light inside. On the left side is the sunset. The painting is very beautiful, it changes from th darkness on the left side where the house is to the sunset on the right. Nothing abstract, very realistic. It also has two dock posts on the right side in the bottom in the water. The water has colors of gray, orange, and yellow. It is signed Johannes but it looks like inside the J there is an O. On the bottom of the signature it has: # 78
I would like to know if anyone has any information about the painter or the painting. I check everywhere and it doesn't have a title written.
Here is the picture:
Thank you for your help.
First of all, I hope you didn't pay very much for this.
The name is not known in the world of fine art, and the number 78 denotes the year it was painted.
This is a very common painting from the 70's.
Artists like Mr Johannes were very skilled and could paint a work like the one you have in about 15 to 30 minutes, and it wasn't uncommon for them to have painted hundreds of these from memory. Although there might be slight differences, the paintings would have been almost identical.
Usually the differences would be in the basic colours and hues, but the scene would be pretty much the same. Also the frame it is in is very cheap.
What is most important here is that you obviously enjoy this painting.
I hope you can find a good place to put it up, and continue to enjoy it.
You might consider putting it in a better frame, but don't invest more than you can afford, as this painting will have no aftermarket value whatsoever.
