Please help me decide between these two violas for a beginner ...?
Viola # 1: Yamaha AVA5 16.5 "handmade, carved spruce top solid hand, again hand-carved solid maple (2 pieces), hand-brushed finish oil varnish, Aubert bridge, ebony fingerboard. Tailpiece Wittner tuner Integrated Chin rosewood. Rosewood pegs, D'Addario Prelude Strings. If cheap wooden bow horsehair authetic, resin cheap. Price: 400 euros (~ 550 U.S. $) Viola # 2: No name 16.5 ", handmade, hand-carved solid top spruce, again hand-carved solid maple (2 pieces), polished hand oil varnish, Aubert bridge, ebony fingerboard, case very well with the hydrometer and 4 slots arc, a Brazilian wood bow with real horsehair Mongolian, chin, built-in tuner tailpiece, ebony fingerboard and pegs, bridge Aubert, Thomistak key chains. Price: 560 euros (~ 750 U $) Thanks a lot.
I would have to hear them play but it sounds like the second one is a little better. For a beginner you probably will not matter much. You can always negotiate or sell if the learner decides to keep the instrument and get a better one. Both have a starting price as instruments.
