What would be the best military branch for me?
I'm an international politics major, but I'm taking a break in between to gain some military experience and well, college is expensive, so much to the point that I'm hardly affording anything. The GI bill certainly is appealing.
So my plan after school is to become an intelligence officer, I'm torn between the Air Force and the Navy.
I'm pretty good with languages, English, Spanish, and some French and Japanese...I am also fascinated with international relations and different policies (hence my major)
What should I go for?
If you want to finish your degree first, apply for an ROTC scholarship. They will pay for your tuition. If you want to join the military before you finish college, you won't be an intelligence officer. You will be an enlisted professional.
An important question to ask yourself when considering the Navy vs. the Air Force: are you ok with spending 6 months at a time on a ship, in confined quarters? If you can handle that, the Navy is an option. If not, look at the Air Force.
To be honest, though, the military isn't the best option if you really want to do something involving international relations. The military doesn't use diplomacy, and intelligence officers don't usually deal with international relations in any way - their job is to provide information on enemy forces to solve tactical problems for operators. If you want to be involved in IR and policy, look at a different branch of the government, such as the State Department.
