I'm having problems with some poetry for English?
What is meant by licking his paws fat in this? The sea is a hungry dog giant gray. He rolls on the beach all day. Look at the different ways in which the poet, James Reeves, uses the metaphor of the dog in three stanzas of the poem. In the third stanza, the sea is a sleeping dog, almost motionless, almost in silence. In the second stanza, with the roar of the wind and dew running against the earth, the sea is a strong dog, strong, howling and shaking itself. In the first stanza, when the tide goes in and out, we see and hear the dog in the game, a relentless, repetitive child goes through the same series of activities throughout the day. Wave after wave of rolls up and down the beach. The tide pushes and drags small pebbles, and a wave of revolutions over another. I think that the dog eats is the movement of water from land while the dog licks his own feet is the movement of the waves against the other waves.
